What Kinds of Recommendations Might Be Made for My Child?
Ultimately, a psychological assessment offers information that we then use to answer referral questions and develop evidence-based recommendations tailored to your child. Examples of commonly provided recommendations include the following:
- Academic recommendations include strategies and accommodations to support learning and emotional needs in school-related situations. Caregivers may provide the completed report to their child’s school to potentially inform IEPs, 504 Plans, and informal support.
- Treatment recommendations provide intervention referrals and recommendations based on needs identified during testing. For instance, referrals for psychiatry, psychotherapy, speech therapy, or medical testing. These also include techniques that other treatment providers may use to optimize interventions and your child’s progress.
- Caregiver recommendations with strategies to support your child at home. For example, techniques to help your child manage their feelings and behavior, build self-esteem, or complete household responsibilities.
- Extracurricular recommendations use your child’s interests, hobbies, and talents to suggest activities for strengthening social skills, self-esteem, and peer relationships.
